General Interview Tips

  • Prepare for your interview by researching the company and the person with whom you are meeting. Write down questions and take them into the interview with you. This will show you have prepared and are taking this interview seriously.
  • Dress for success. Regardless of a company’s dress code you are still on an interview – wear a professional suit.
  • Arrive no more than 10-15 minutes early.
  • Be aware of your body language – handshake, eye contact, smile, and posture are all important non verbal communications.
  • During the interview, you should do 50% of the talking and 50% listening. Be engaging and interactive but not overbearing or chatty.
  • Ask for the position. If you are truly interested, make sure the interviewer knows that you are sincerely ready to move to the next step.
  • Follow up with a handwritten thank you note. Email is fine, but a handwritten note is a personal touch that people still appreciate.
